The working process, stage by stage.
Sample edit first
Send 2,000 words. We edit them free and tell you which passes the manuscript needs. Plenty of writers hear back that they only need a copy edit, and that is a cheaper quote.
Developmental pass
Structure, pacing, argument, character. You receive a letter — usually eight to twelve pages — rather than a wall of comment bubbles.
Line and copy
Sentence-level work, then mechanical consistency: spelling, hyphenation, timeline, character names, citation format.
Proof on pages
The final read happens on the typeset PDF, where widows, bad breaks, and running-head errors actually show up.
About editing & proofreading.
Will you rewrite my voice into something generic?
No. Line editors work in tracked changes and annotate anything stylistic, so you can reject it in one click. Voice preservation is the first thing we test for in a sample edit.
How long does a 90,000-word manuscript take?
A developmental pass runs three to four weeks; line and copy about three weeks; proofreading around one. Running all four consecutively is roughly eight to ten weeks.
Do you edit non-native English manuscripts?
Regularly. Ask for the ESL line edit, which spends extra attention on idiom and article use without flattening how you sound.
